Welcome Merchant recently celebrated its second birthday – you can read all about our journey over the last couple of years here.
Marjorie Tenchavez, founder of Welcome Merchant, is extremely proud of what the social enterprise has achieved so far in their support of refugee and asylum seeker-led businesses. For example, WM has generated $40 000 for our refugee business partners through sold-out Curated Dining Events and Goody Boxes, and also raised $5000 for lockdown-affected businesses in August of last year.

Where to from here?
You can expect many brilliant things from Welcome Merchant in the future. Events that are coming up include our next Pop Up Market in North Melbourne on Sunday 1st of May – the perfect time to nab an ethical Mother’s Day gift! WM is also hosting a Syrian baking class in Sydney with Racha’s Syrian Kitchen on the 22nd of May. Other important events to stay tuned for later in the year in Sydney include our 6-course dinner for Refugee Week (June) and a Christmas Pop-Up Market.
For the longer-term future, Marjorie hopes to work with more merchants from creative backgrounds such as artists, musicians and models.
Marjorie also says:
“I would like to see the WM model replicated in other countries that have a high intake of refugees and people seeking asylum”
