Welcome Merchant had the privilege of speaking to the founder of One of a Kind Skin, Rawan. A skincare business that started in 2020, derived from all-natural and sustainably sourced ingredients, with a message to treat yourself with kindness. A one-woman business championing natural Australian ingredients, with proceeds going to much-needed charities. Rawan was born and raised in Jordan, with her mother originating from Syria and her father from Palestine. At the age of three, she migrated to Australia along with her parents, who were seeking better opportunities.
Creating a skincare brand was something she feels passionate about, and combining the business to help out charities is a testament to her giving nature.
Inspiration behind the skincare brand
One of a Kind Skin began through Rawan’s own struggle in finding suitable ingredients for her skin. Many of the products available in various stores weren’t working for her skin type and had harsh ingredients. This inspired her to create a brand with all-natural ingredients that were effective in tackling skin issues. “A brand that started with soap has now grown into a range of over five products, each proven time and again to deliver results”, says Rawan.

Considering Personal and Customer Feedback
Rawan’s personal skincare and customer needs have always been at the forefront of her decision-making when products are considered. “I am constantly listening to my customers to understand what they need to care for and improve their skin”, Rawan says. One example is the Hydrating Milk Cleanser, which is best suited for dry skin; however, through feedback from her close friends and family, they were looking for a gentle yet effective gel cleanser, which inspired her to develop the Calming Gel Cleanser.
The focus on considering and taking on feedback to improve and innovate new products for her customers is proof of why One of a Kind Skin has become so successful.
Meeting the gap in the skincare market
There are numerous skin care brands on offer, all attempting to solve the world’s skincare issue. One of a Kind Skin’s mission is to provide a natural remedy that truly works. The creation of products with plant-based ingredients that are simple, transparent, and easy to understand—skincare that is gentle on the skin yet delivers real, effective results.
The focus on using Australia’s rich biodiversity through botanical extracts and organic ingredients is the leading edge of what makes this brand popular. The use of Kakadu plum to Quandong Extract shows the customers how nature itself can be a source for tackling skincare problems.
Balancing nature with science
At One of a Kind Skin, the best skincare happens when nature and science work together. Using natural, locally sourced ingredients for their purity and sustainability works well when paired with clinically proven and simple frameworks to ensure every product performs. Rawan says, “It’s all about finding a balance with formulas, one that is kind to your skin, good for the planet, and actually delivers results”.

One of a Kind Skin’s best-selling product
“Our best-selling product is currently the Golden Glaze Serum. This serum is so
beautiful and smells incredible, made from Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Macadamia Oil,
it is highly nourishing with a subtle shimmer. Everyone loves it! We are so grateful!” Rawan expressed.
Skincare and Charity
One of a Kind Skin brings skincare and charity together through the Kind Project. The act of giving back has always been at the heart of the brand and more than just skincare for Rawan. “It’s about self-care with purpose; helping others feel good shouldn’t stop at the surface”, she explains. Since this initiative started, the business has partnered with charities that support women, families, and communities in need. Combining skincare with giving back was a way to create real impact, inside and out.
Debunking a Skincare Myth
The skincare market is a billion-dollar industry, and the constant shifts in beauty standards dictate what consumers deem popular or gimmicks. Consumers sometimes view having a variety of skincare products and a lengthy routine as a necessity. However, sometimes less is more and going a natural route suitable for your skin type has more benefits.
Rawan believes in debunking the myth that ‘natural products don’t really work’. The truth is, when high-quality, thoughtfully formulated natural ingredients are used, long-lasting results will follow. At One of a Kind Skin, they focus on harnessing the power of nature’s pure, gentle, and effective ingredients without the need for harsh chemicals or complicated routines.

Reflection on the October 7th 2023 incident
We asked Rawan what her thoughts were since the October 7th 2023, events unfolded. Here’s what she had to say.
“Being Palestinian in the diaspora and witnessing what has happened to Palestinians, people who look like me, my family, and my community, has been one of the most painful and demoralising experiences of my life. Over the past two years, it has deeply affected my motivation and creative energy. There have been times when running my business felt emotionally conflicting; promoting products on social media can feel out of place when so many are suffering. This ongoing pain has made it difficult to create or market with the same spark, but it has also reminded me why I started One of a Kind Skin— to create something rooted in care, empathy, and connection. Even in difficult times, I hope my work can reflect those values”
Final Thoughts
Rawan wanted to highlight that One of a Kind Skin has always been more than skincare. It’s about connection, compassion, and feeling seen. These past few years have reminded her how important it is to lead with empathy both in business and in life. “I’m proud that our brand continues to reflect care not just for skin, but for people and community”.
